Of course, as with any adventurous activities located in remote environments, there are a number of health and safety guidelines that are imperative to keep in mind, not only to ensure your own safety while exploring the park’s forest and river habitats, but to protect the park’s pristine biodiversity and its wildlife from disease and other outside influences.

Before setting out, we recommend our guests carry water with them or camel up in the morning. Carb loading is not necessary but if you choose to set out on a longer trek, if you choose to set out on a longer trek, having snacks to refuel along the trail is a good idea as well. Granola, fruit bars, and nuts are some of our favorites. But please be sure to bring back any plastic or wrappers with you.  But please be sure to bring back any plastic or wrappers with you.

In the tropics, with frequent thunderstorms, weather is difficult to predict. If you are hiking during the wet season, between June and September, heavy downpours can make trails quite slippery,  so be sure to pack a raincoat or poncho just in case. A pair of sturdy pair of boots and for support and thick socks to keep your feet dry is also highly recommended.

At Cardamom Tented Camp, we also allow guests the freedom to explore the wilderness on our short self-guided trail that surrounds the camp. If you plan to hike the trail without a guide, please inform our staff in advance about when and where you are going. In these situations, we recommend your jungle kit include a pocket-torch, compass, or map. Another useful item to bring is a whistle. If you, or one of your companions, wanders off, the sound of a whistle can carry for miles.

Cardamom Tented Camp team members, as well as the Wildlife Alliance rangers, receive annual Red-Cross First-Aid training and are well-equipped to handle any emergency situation, including how to handle snake bites. In addition to running regular safety drills, all our tents are fitted with smoke alarms and fire extinguishers.

Regarding pests, we are fortunate that the area is free from mosquito-borne diseases like malaria or dengue fever  and no cases have been documented in the region or local communities for many years. We do however recommend to bring and use insect repellent and sunscreen are while on the trails.

We ask that guests respect our ground rules in order to protect the park’s pristine biodiversity and wildlife. We are always happy to welcome families, but unfortunately, cannot accommodate children below the age of 7 years old. The lush jungle can be quite the precarious place for toddlers. As with most hotels, we do not allow pets at Cardamom Tented Camp: this is to ensure not only the safety of your pet but for the park’s wildlife as well.

If you have any other specific requests, please inform us in advance and remember to be prepared for a fun-filled adventure crossing rivers and creeks and exploring off-the-beaten-muddy-path.

There’s nothing like being properly prepared for your trip to Cardamom Tented Camp to ensure that you get the most out of your adventure with us in one of Cambodia’s last remaining forest wildernesses.
